It is very hard to find out substantive information about heat produced by a decomposing body* without finding yourself face-to-face with a lot of very, very squicky information (and pics - ew!)
In other words, short story is progressing.

* ETA: there doesn't seem to be any, though that doesn't seem to be the aspect of decomposition that websites describing said process in detail seem to want to dwell on. (Again: Ew!) Anyhow, I'm just going with "no heat".
