I'm in Hell! HELL!

So, one of the main reasons I'm still running on dial-up at home is that I absolutely adore my ISP. I've never gotten a busy signal in 7 years, their spam filtering is really good and doesn't eat all my legitimate mail too, and when I'd call technical support and they'd ask, "What are you running?" and I'd say "Red Hat 7.2" (I've recently upgraded) they'd KNOW WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT. Linux-capable tech support on your front lines is just the coolest, bestest thing ever, and I love my ISP, with little blinky hearts and everything.

So today I get an email from the CEO to all the customers:
Dear Speakeasy Members,

Today is an historic and exciting day for Speakeasy.

I am pleased to announce that Speakeasy has been acquired by Best Buy,
an innovative and growing Fortune 100 company and the top consumer
electronics retailer in North America.

Best Buy?!? They opened a Best Buy here about two years ago and I've been in it about four times. The first time (their Grand Opening day, no less) all their floor associates were standing around talking about someone's underwear and wouldn't help me find what I was looking for. The second time I found my item after much hassle and it was four times the price I thought it should be. The third time they had no idea what I was talking about even though it was a common computer item. The fourth (and last) time I went in looking for a cable; I'd purchased one at the University store for $4.00, but it was their last one and I needed two. Best Buy had the exact same cable for $14.99. Their customer service sucks, they have no knowledge whatsoever on their staff, they're grossly mismanaged and seriously overpriced, they rarely even have what I'm looking for, and their ads are arrogant and annoying. I regard shopping at Best Buy as pretty much equivalent in yuck to shopping at Walmart.

Hell, even the local Radio Shack is less inept. This does not bode well.

It's appalling enough news that it made slashdot. Someone please tell me that Seattle is on a special Daylight Savings adjustment where they've jumped ahead 5 days...

Coulda been worse--CompUSA is so incompetent AND overpriced in comparison that they've stopped competing with BestBuy anywhere they have stores near each other.

Lets face it--retail in general has gone downhill, and it wasn't too far up on the hillside to begin with.
