Made a new friend at work today, a very friendly guy hanging out in the hallway:

I put the penny there for scale, but then took the picture at a bit of an angle so the penny was a fair bit closer to the camera, making the bug look smaller than he actually was. He waved hello to me with his 2" long antennae. I suspect he has a lot of close relatives in the building.

Ha! Have you reported this to building maintenance? You might want to. Looks like they haven't managed to get the flame throwers out this semester, yet. Ugh.

I still remember a particularly revolting corner of Morrill (some sub-basement) where there were roaches the size of my whole hand. Spot? Ron? Someone like that, anyway, liberated a couple by scooping them into a glass jar, then bringing them to Spot's then-girlfriend's art opening and leaving them on the table with the snacks. In the jar, of course. It was fun watching people get horrified. Later whoever-it-was librerated them into the hallway of the grad tower. We waved goodbye. Bye, giant horror! Bye!

So what you've got right there might be a great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandbug of that original critter!

Yeah, I think Morrill is the worst building on campus for cockroaches, though we're definitely a serious contender at the moment. Marshall Annex, long may it rest in peace, was also very bad -- bad enough that we actually named a few of the bigger ones, and could tell them apart from each other.

I didn't talk to maintenance, but I mentioned the roach problem in the bathroom to the ops manager yesterday, so I don't know if it's already been called in.

:P

My workplace may have problems, but mercifully that's not one of them.

I worked for a company in Framingham many years ago where they'd just relocated to new offices prior to when I started there. The story my coworkers told about the old building was that it was a bit dilapidated and that somehow pigeons were getting inside and nesting up above the dropped ceiling. Some genius had the brilliant idea of poisoning the birds, at which point there were then dead birds up there. Which attracted bugs. Which used to fall down out of the ceiling onto desks, people's heads, into your coffee mug, lunch, etc.

Cockroaches ain't so bad, really.

*boggle*

Wow, that's a special kind of stupid. And a special kind of gross.

Yes, sorry. )-:

They made up special mugs for all the employees commemorating the fact that they'd survived that building.

Hey, don't apologize to me! I didn't work there!

Were the mugs at least hilarious?
