Finished up (at long last!) my story from -Viable Paradise-, Two For The Starry Night. (Which, for those of you who attended VP IX, is my Titanic story). I've been sitting on this one half-finished since the workshop, and in my procrastinatory efforts novel-wise I finally opened it up, overhauled it, and finished it over the weekend.

Going to pass it by my writer's group in early February, and then hopefully send it out.

Excerpty bit:

Ibil ducked a blow aimed at his head, swung out his leg and kicked the crewman -- a waiter, he noted -- hard in the knee. The man went down. "Ha!" Ibil cried with glee. "And your service was mediocre, too!"
The deck around him was a melee of passengers and crew, with some from each side having defected to the other early on. Ibil was no longer sure who he should be hitting, so he limited himself to those who were trying to hit him first. Meanwhile, unaware of the chaos on her decks, the Titanic had begun to sink.

zanzjan: (rejected!)
F&SF rejected the revamped I Cannot Abide Your Merciful Ways, with a turn-around of 5 days. This was a JJA "there's nice writing here but" rejection, which is my second of those, and I consider it as slightly less rejecty than the usual no-thanks-and-good-luck. Yes, it's still a rejection, but at least I know it doesn't completely suck.

Huh. Now, of course, I will put on my Pointy and Many-Starred Hat of Rejectomancy and start wondering what elements the two "nice writing" stories have in common...

...while I figure out where to send the story next, natch.
