I finished off Two For The Starry Night on Friday and sent it off to my writer's group for tomorrow's meeting. I also got farther on the Maybe Novel, which has sort of two separate and distinct pieces at the moment for a total of about 5000 words. Each is a different character, and I think Cori is going to end up leading off the novel rather than Daran. My goal is to have fewer POV characters (and have it be at least 30k shorter) than Novel The First. (-:
Weird Tales flushed Stray in record time, about 9 days. That's rejection #61, for anyone who is counting -- only 39 more to go and I can have another party! I sent it back out today, so I still have 8 things out there pending, ranging from 386 days to about 40 minutes.

She lay on her back on the thin mattress, sweating in the stale, motionless air as she listened to the arrythmic, tin can sounds of water dripping somewhere nearby. It had gone on for most of the night, one drop after another, sometimes closely followed by the next, sometimes not. It never stopped for long, which meant it was probably not urine or a chemical flush from above but real, honest rain. She hoped that Lowdown wasn't going to flood again, and desperately wished that it would. Groaning, she sat up and swung her legs off the bunk. Her bare feet dangled above the heavy boots that waited between her and the unspeakable floor. She ran one hand across her face and stared around at the eight-foot-square metal cube that was the closest she had ever come to having a home. Right. |
