It has now been four weeks since the modem in my computer died. Since it was still under warranty, I took it back to the place I bought it and they'd send it back to the manufacturer and get me a replacement, which should only take a week or a little more.

And yes, four weeks later, no modem. To get internet access at all, I booted up my ancient RH7.1 box which is running a version of netscape so ancient it can't cope with 90% of web pages without crashing. I've been reading my email off my ISP via pine.

And I just can't take it anymore.

I called the computer place today and was told, somewhat impatiently, that they'd call me when it came in and they didn't know how long that would be. Never mind that I send 'em tens of thousands of dollars of business every semester, apparently they just can't be bothered to make effort for one lousy modem. Have I mentioned how much I hate open-ended waiting? At last, the final straw has been placed, the camel's back has snapped, and my frustration has reached such a magnitude that it has, at long last, not only reached proportions that dwarf the sun, it has became massive enough to overcome my fundamental unwillingness to give money to Comcast.

So I've ordered a cable modem. They are sending me a self-install kit, which should arrive sometime in the next 3-5 days.

I suppose this means I ought to get myself a wireless router so I can get all my computers up on it. Anyone have any particular ones they'd recommend/disrecommend?

Sigh. It has come down to this. I resisted for so long...
