I am told there are now links to supposed youtube videos being posted to various LJ communities that are in fact redirects to the virus sites mentioned above; at least one unimpeachable source (
green_knight, who I thank for the warning) has been hit by this and seen the download attempt in person. And yeah, being on a Mac won't save you this time.
Be wary of what you click on.
Oh yeah, and before you do any more surfing tonight? Make a clean backup of your important files and stash them away somewhere. You know it's been too long since you've done that anyway, so now's as good a time as any. And be aware of (and minimize as much as possible) what personal information you keep on your computer -- you may be reasonably confident of your virus software, firewalls, etcetera to keep out remote intruders, but if a thief breaks into your house and physically walks off with your machine (as recently happened to someone I know), would you even know what info he'd gained access to?
