writing: status
Jul. 13th, 2008 11:51 pmFinding time to write has been especially difficult lately, for obvious reasons. However, I actually sat down and culled words out of a short to make it fit into the length restrictions of a particular market, only to discover that said market just closed to submissions (only for a week, though.)
I've also been slowly rewriting the Aztec story. I need a good map of Vatican City. Those two things are actually connected, though it'd be hard to explain how in fewer words or less time than it'd take me to just write the damned story.
I have the beginnings of a plot and the opening sentence of another Verah and Sofi story:
"Verah?" Sofi asked, her small voice breaking the long monotonous silence. "For real, are there killer robots?"
Arcx has been simmering away in the backbrain and I've figured out more of what's broken with it, and I think once I finish the Aztec story I should be able to jump back into it with a lot more success.
The mountain story is still back there in the queue waiting and refusing to go away. There's about 1k written, and at least twice a year I print out the map I made of the town and stare at it and move the little houses around on it.
Miledrop is also simmering away, somewhat less patiently. I think I know what's broken with it, and I know how to get my guys out of the unbelievable mess I left them stuck in.
I currently have three things on submission that have been out there for 863 days, 369 days, and 157 days each. I have sent out woefully few things this year, and unless I get my ass moving I will break my four-year-long streak of having two sales every calendar year.
I have one story currently out in Interzone, and a quirkily small piece coming out soon that I can't give you details on yet but which I am also very excited about.
My writing group seems to have gone kaput, though I hope that's not the case. If so, I'm going to need to find another. )-:
The fan letter I got out of the blue the other day has given me a momentum I haven't had in a long time, not since before my brother became ill back in early 2006. I hate to think I'm motivated by the praise of others, but damn it does feel nice (-:
Currently started but entirely stalled are the fungus story and Zombie Cabana Boy. The latter seems to require more thought, which seems almost a betrayal of the entire concept (-:
I think that's where everything is at. Any questions?
