how you know you're tired:

When you realize you just wrote that people were giving your main character dirty stairs.

Got a small bit done on Surf before I realized I needed to think through motivations a little more. So that's chugging away in the brain for the moment.

Now finished fixing three chapters' worth of Miledrop, for a net gain of about 500 words (whoopdeedo!) Still, that's three chapters fixed. They get more broken as they go forward, since I definitely went off on a dead-end on the previous draft, but I know where I'm heading now.

I also did some work on the mountain thing last week, some minor progress forward. More for my own benefit than any expectation this will be interesting to anyone else, a list of projects actively in the works:
Miledrop, novel. Would like to finish first draft this year.
Arcx, also a novel. Same as above, but less of a priority than above.
Surf, a short story
Tucker's Fall, the mountain thing, probably a novelette when done.
Fifth Sun, the aztec thing, also probably a novelette when done.

I've got other stuff going on, but those are the things I'd like to make active progress on before 2008 comes to an end. I'd particularly like to finish one of the shorter pieces. I've currently got 5 things out.

Foolish me, still awake at this hour. Going to go correct that now.

strange commemoration

So, I used to have on top of my monitor (until it died and I went with a flat-screen) one small object signifying each of the stories (and poems) I'd sold. There's a couple I never found a good token item for, and I've been on the lookout for a small ceramic pig for Concession Girl but haven't found one that was quite what I wanted. However, today while doing some stream-of-consciousness surfing (just don't ask what I was originally googling, but suffice it to say it wasn't anything naughty) I came across this. I have to say I'm tempted. How weird would that make me?

What sorts of things do any of the rest of you do to celebrate a sale? Am I the only one with a collection of actual symbolic objects? Does that make me crazy? (Uh, crazier?)
