My cable modem at home is having issues, of the no-longer-giving-me-internet-access variety. "tech support" at comcast is a lame joke at best -- the woman had me unplug my ethernet cable and turn it around and plug it back in with the ends swapped. When that didn't work she wanted me to reinstall the OS on my computer. Um, no.

As near as I can tell the cable modem is communicating with comcast correctly but won't talk to whatever is on the other end of the ethernet port out the back. That was originally my wireless router, but I plugged my laptop in directly in its place and still couldn't get a connection. And yes, I tried swapping the cable. Troubleshooting this would be much easier if there was someone competent on the other end.

So right now we're sitting in a Panera having a very late lunch and making use of the free wifi. I may be hard to reach until I can get this fixed. OTOH, the outage coincides very nicely with the start of nanowrimo, so maybe I'll call it fate and get my butt in gear writing.
