Another 3,994 words revised on Miledrop, which brings me very abruptly to the point where I'm effectively out of draft -- there's a lame half-chapter still clinging to the end of the file but enough stuff has now changed that, with the posible exception of maybe a well-crafted sentence here and there, it all has to go. New word time!

So, as it now stands:

NaNoCheaMo: 26,565 including work so far this month on Surf

No way I'm going to make 50k, but sheeit, you gotta figure 26k of combined revision and new writing is a mighty fine accomplishment for being a single parent to 6-month-old twins and having an insanely busy and stressful day job. Plus it's not over yet -- I've got six days left of November and I think it's not unreasonable to hope to pass 30k.

And: I got two more curtains sewed and folded two loads of baby laundry. And we made home-made pizza for dinner. Now I just need to decide if I'm going to bother cooking anything on Thanksgiving at all, since I'm the only one of the four of us who eats turkey. Of course, turkey is my favorite food ever so I expect I'm gonna stubborn it out and make one anyway, which means shopping tomorrow.

A bunch of folks on my FL are posting holiday tunes to count down the season. While I am dearly fond of Thanksgiving (and yes, I bought a turkey) I am much less fond of Christmas. I suppose that's mostly because when I was a kid Christmas was all about seeing my grandparents and the annual competition with my brothers over who got the best/most/biggest presents. And they are all gone now. One reason I chose to celebrate the Solstice instead is that it's a celebration that's not tainted with so much loss.

That said, I don't really mind Christmas per se (and I totally love the tree) but I absolutely loathe Christmas music, and I attribute that in large part to too much of my youth spent working retail for crap wages in places with christmas songs on a loop tape that just played over and over and over again. Eight hours a day, five days a week, of the same ten songs? And do I even need to mention the Christmas-In-July sales?

So. Recognizing that this does indeed make me a bit of a bah-humbug, I offer this in return: my own Solstice Advent Calendar, counting down the days to the longest night and the start of brighter days.

It is now 26 days until December 21st. Click the door to open. Everything SFW unless noted otherwise.
