one day left

The short story is up to 1000 words. Not a huge bit of progress, but I've spent the last 24 hours furious and stressed about work stuff (why do I check my work email when I'm on vacation? Because I'm an idiot!) and it's thrown me completely off my groove. I'm finally back to some sort of equilibrium there (at least until Monday when I'm back in the office and have to deal directly) and have figured out at least a few tiny things about the story which should give me the handholds I need to start getting somewhere, so I might get another 1k or so in tomorrow before 2011 ends. It's not going to be *that* short a short story so no chance of a full draft by midnight, but at least I think I've managed to convince it that it doesn't need to be a novel. In January it'll give me something to work on while procrastinating from revising the FEBn. Juggle juggle juggle!

I was amazed earlier this week to realize that the restlessness I was feeling was almost entirely because I wasn't writing. So I guess I should try not to do that for very long, at least not without a LOT of other stuff going on to distract me. Apparently I can't give up writing now even if I wanted to, unless someone invents us a patch.
