letter to a senator
Aug. 3rd, 2011 10:08 amSeveral weeks ago I sent the following letter to one of my senators. The reply I received was a fairly generic robosigned "thank you for your idea, we work very hard in the area of [your concern] and appreciate feedback from the public" sort of thing, which struck me as meaning they read just far enough to grab a keyword, pull up a form letter reply for that area, and send it back.
I'm more than a little disappointed. Of course, at the time I sent it, I still had some vague glimmer of hope that our congress-critters were interested in the public good, and frankly after this whole debt-ceiling debacle I'm solidly pessimistic about the good of *any* of our public officials, but all that aside, this strikes me as a completely sensible, non-partisan idea. And, dammit, I think it's important.
Anyway, below is the letter. If it seems like a good idea to you as well, maybe you can contact your senator(s) and we can see if together we can collect a full set of generic form-letter responses on congressional stationery.
