First off, NO SPOILERS. What constitutes a spoiler? Well, right now, all I know about Lost is that I think it has an island in it.

Yes, I know the big series finale is sometime tonight. I've never watched it. I go through phases where I watch very little TV, and this show started during one of those times and by the time I was looking for something to watch so much of the talk around the series centered on sort of "WTF" confusion that I figured I'd missed too much to really want to start in the middle.

Instead I started watching Chuck and Castle, both of which I'm caught up on now, and it's about to turn into summer where the only things on TV that aren't repeats are going to be ghastly reality-tv shows. But hey, there's DVDs, and I suspect I'll be looking for some entertainment there.

I find my general interest in Lost to be about the "meh" level.

I know once you start watching these kinds of things, you start to feel like you've got time invested in it, and you want to see it through to the end. But if you could go back in a time machine to your pre-Lost self, solely to advise yourself on whether or not to watch the show, what advice would you give?

And yes, please answer *after* you've finished with the finale, because we all know how a truly lousy finale can drain the good out of an entire series (American version of Life on Mars, I'm looking at YOU.)

"Life on Mars" -- oh, excellent example!!

I'm not watching the LOST finale, mainly because I've missed the bulk of the season thanks to work etc. I missed most of Season Five last spring, but managed to see it via Netflix, and I'm hoping to catch the last season there, too. Or in reruns this summer, if I'm lucky.

Heck, I still haven't seen the last ep of Castle, or Chuck, but we have them on videotape. Maybe I'll finally get around to them tonight. About the only show I'm near-religious about watching these days is Criminal Minds.

Yeah, "Life on Mars" was one of those rare instances where you realized you'd have actually preferred the whole "it was just a dream!" lame-ass ending.

Chuck season finale is tomorrow, 2 hours long. I hope I don't forget!

(...though I'd love to know if the original British series ended more satisfactorily.)

Me either. But once in a while it's nice, and I hate to not know what's going on so I tend to want to watch the beginning of something first.

I kind of watched Bones over Ken's shoulder sometimes. Seems not too bad. He watches it via the internet feed from the station (Fox, I think?), so mostly I'm just eavesdropping.

yeah, I liked Bones the times I saw it, though it suffered a bit from the CSI-style "look, squicky dead stuff ZOOOOMING UP CLOSE!" stuff. Charred/decomposed/mummified corpse, I get it. Can you stop peeling it and waving bits in front of the camera, please? But they didn't overplay it nearly as badly as CSI does.

My take on it is this: they left too much unexplained at the end for my tastes, but I loved watching the characters over all six seasons, and some of the mysteries were really cool, so it was worth it.

The series was not flawless, by any standard, but was still much more intelligent than most of what's on TV.

Where's the "What's a TV?" option? Or "Lost? What's that?"

Some additional (non-spoilery) commentary on that very topic!
