Added a little shy of 500 words to the flesh-eating bacteria story. Some of the pace was dictated by me going back and tinkering with previous words a fair bit, which doesn't represent itself easily in a word count. More, it was because I'm having trouble keeping this entire thing in my head at once, which is another hint that it might want to be a novel.

But it's not, at least not yet. 28,450 words. I'd really hoped to have a first draft of this done by the end of the month, but I dunno. )-:

I think part of the difficulty is that just about everybody -- good guys *and* bad guys -- are operating under a whole bunch of bad assumptions and/or misinformation, and it's different for each of them, so I have to keep in my head not only what's really going on, but what each of them *thinks* is going on, and how what each of the rest of them is doing is pushing them either closer to or farther from the truth.

I think I need to kill off some more people so I have less to keep track of. Adding that to tomorrow's to-do.

(Also, my rather hapless main character has a love interest. Sheesh, the things these characters get up to when the writer is away from the keyboard...)

You should add a second love interest for extra fun. :-) Extra points if the other love interest might be one of the bad guys. But might not.

I like my main character. In my experience, too many love interests lead inevitably to misery, and he's got more than enough problems as it is.

Heh. Where "too many" can == 1 for some people. :-)

In fact, I suspect that all love interests lead to misery at one point or another. Too many just vastly increases the frequency.

And there's always room for more problems.
