I've realized that my brain is packed full of fluff and as a result I need to *talk* out the space-squid story in order to make sense of it, but there's nobody around here to plot-noodle with. )-:

Any of my writerly friends wanna come out/up/down/over sometime this weekend, maybe sit around Panera or the cafe in the Book Mill or some other place with dark corners and caffeinated beverages, and throw some plot-pies back and forth?

(And yes, [livejournal.com profile] infinitehotel, I still owe you a crit. I suck.)

I love the idea of hanging out at a cafe hashing out plot ideas but, this weekend is not the best time for me to do so.

Good luck!

5:45 found me dogging Tom The Bleary Eyed trying to explain my death-angel/demon-child-betrayed thing.
Here's the actual arc of events, I say. Do you think the story should start here or there?
That's a tricky one, he replies then heads off to put his socks on.

I'm on-call and it's tech week for Tomes of Terror so I can't this weekend. I haven't given up on getting the Rosleyians going again however, though life hasn't been exactly conductive to writing of late. I'm pitching WFC this year with the plan of using that weekend as an exclusive writing holiday to get a bunch of stuff in my queue finished and out into circulation so some critique would be hugely useful.

And besides, my critique is just as late, so our suckages cancel each other out. :)

We probably ought to figure out soon if we want to push for a reading slot at Arisia again. (And if we get it, we also ought to try to pick stories under 8k each this time. Doh!)

I am feeling very ambivalent about going to either Arisia or Boskone this year, but I think that's a combination of exhaustion, poverty, and feeling really convinced I suck and nobody really wants to see me or hear my stuff. I can't do both cons, that's for certain.

Yeah, it might be slightly harder this year so we should jump early if we want it.

I'm ambivalent about Arisia as well (though I'm sure I can find something shorter to read) but please stop with the suckage talk. If you don't I will be forced to drive out to Western Mass, and beat you soundly amidst the head and shoulders until Zuki rips out my throat and devours my corpse at her leisure.

And really, neither of us want that, do we?

You're doing great. You're writing well. You've gotten excellent reviews on two stories published in a high-profile SF magazine. You're raising THREE children. You're awesome and it has been both my honor and my privilege to be associated with you as a writer and as a person.

So save your dog the horrors of elevated cholesterol (and yourself the problems of getting rid of my gnawed corpse) and get writing, okay?

Love,
=John

Methinks multiple Interzone sales and excellent reviews--and the BSF award honorable mention listing, too, darn it!! -- all more than cancel out all the other crap.

I'm joining the Rosley self-deprecation wheel too; I owe you a crit for the opening of Arcx (and let's not talk about the stoopid book reviews I owe).

Arisia--I've got the invite email sitting in my inbox....but if writers don't go, it will just devolve further down the media track.

Though at this point I'm not sure anyone can prevent that.

Arisia vs Boskone--either way, the weather sucks for a trip back to MA.
