So, I'm kind of at a loss what to get my folks for the holidays, and I was thinking maybe a CD or two. They like new-agey instrumental stuff -- Tangerine Dream, Kitaro, etc. I was sort of thinking about Bonobo's album "Dial M For Monkey" (assuming I can find it between now and Thursday), but it might be just a squidge too eccentric for them. Anyone have any suggestions?

Enya has a new album that came out just a little while ago.

It's more world music than new-agey, but it's instrumental: I just watched the movie "Babel" last night and they had some pretty keen instrumental guitar bits in it. I Shazam-ed it and it's Gustavo Santaolalla. He's on a few albums, Ronroco looks pretty good. Dunno about buying it locally, but you could consider iTunes-ing it and burning them an audio CD if you can't get it.

Ooooh, I've never heard of him. Sounds good so far (thank you, Amazon music sampler!)

It's not new-agey, but for really great instrumental Spanish guitar there's Castles of Spain by Andres Segovia, or Djangology 49 by the Gypsy Django Reinhardt.

Oh yeah, those are both great! I love Django, and I have everything by Segovia (Dad was a classical guitarist) and Julian Bream and a bunch of others. But it's not new-agey at all, so...

Have you ever tried them on Mannheim Steamroller? They also have lots of Christmas albums.

Ottmar Liebert is quite the new-age sensation on guitar, and Suzanne Ciani is also nice. She's a pianist. Also, if you check the Windham Hill wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windham_Hill_Records) you will find quite a list of new-age and world music artists to check out. Good luck and may they NOT have given you a spruce anything this year. :)

Way too late for that, I'm afraid. Thanks for the link!
