Songs you find yourself singing babies when you're exhausted and no lyrical genius to start with:

Green green green,
Green is my favorite color!
Green green green,
Green is my favorite color.
Green green green,
Green is my favorite color
Except when it comes
Out -- of -- your -- Bum!
(bum bum bum)

And you wonder why I'm not a rock star. Glad you stayed up late to read that, eh? Right. It took the elder child until she was about four before she requested that I never sing to her again. We'll see if these two catch on quicker.

So, did Palin know Africa was a continent or not? It turns out to be a very interesting question.

[livejournal.com profile] guenpanther and [livejournal.com profile] mlp367 drove all the way out from eastern MA to babysit the sprogs tonight so I could go out and see Iron & Wine in concert, which was also made possible by a timely ticket from [livejournal.com profile] matociquala. The only bummer of the night was not getting to see her there, though I did finally meet [livejournal.com profile] batwrangler in person and we realized we've been in each other's social circles forever and just never managed a formal intro.

Anyway.

The concert was very good, although I think the sound guy wasn't entirely competent. It was more painfully off-balance during the warm-up band, Blitzen Trapper, who despite the sound problems (and a phenomenally stupid name) were reasonably good as well. If their studio work is up to the quality of their live show, they could definitely be worth some more listening. The venue was standing only, but we managed to get in the door early enough to stake out space along the edge of a raised platform so we had a place to sit as long as we didn't mind staring at people's butts instead of the musicians. Despite being extremely crowded -- pretty much packed wall to wall -- the place was sufficiently well ventilated that I actually got cold and put my jacket back on half-way through. I like moving air, so this made me happy.

It occurred to me that, unless you count a semester where I took a night class and got a babysitter to watch the Elder Child while I was out, this is one of only a handful of kidless "nights out" I've had since before I became a parent. That's really sad and pathetic, so I'm gonna go back to thinking about the very nice music. (-:
