a great day
Aug. 17th, 2007 11:16 pmIt was a beautiful day, weatherwise: sunny, not too hot, a light but constant breeze. And best of all, I was not at work!
Instead, I met up with my friend Mike and went with him to a Red Sox game. Despite being a lifelong fan I'd never managed to make it to a real game before. I've been wanting to do this for twenty years now!
Our seats were way off behind right field and it was not an especially good view -- there was a big pillar that kept me from seeing the pitcher unless I leaned way over -- but it was still great to watch, better than I'd imagined! We scored six runs in the first inning. Wooooh!
Here's Fenway Park:

I even got a hot dog from one of those vending guys who runs up and down the rows yelling. I felt it was an obligatory part of the experience (and not one I'd be inclined to repeat, I must say):

After the game (we won! yay!) Mike and I walked into Cambridge and had dinner, and then managed to miss much of the traffic getting out of the city. You could hardly ask for a better day.
Meanwhile,
llcoolvad picked the child up from camp for me, got her home, fed her, and even let the child subject her to many hours of Avatar. For all I sometimes lament not having a lot of friends, the few friends I have are awfully darned good and I wouldn't trade them for the world.
Now I'm gonna go to bed. My parents arrive sometime Sunday, so tomorrow is clean-the-house day...
